About Us
The Community Services Unit is a unit within the Ministry of Equity, Social Justice & Empowerment that provides services directed at developing communities by facilitating and creating the capacity for human development.
Mission Statement
Build social capital through the empowerment of individuals and communities to improve socio-economic conditions towards self direct change to result in advancement of individuals, communities and the nation.
Definition of the Community Services Unit
The Community Development Unit is about positve planned change taking place at or among the following three levels, the individual group and the community, and contributing to improvement. This process ultimately promotes positive change and empowerment.
The Role of the Community Services
Helping people, changing lives, building communities.
- Community Development within the context of economic and social sustainability is critical. The need to develop a creative and supportive climate within which a community can achieve its fullest potential is a pre-requisite to this development.
- This can be achieved through the encouragement of the growth and development community based organizations, and the provision of relavant assistance for social projects identified by the community.
- It is predicated on the notion of empowering the citizenry through the process of democratic governance and social sustainability.
